Integrated approaches to crisis prevention and conflict transformation, Berlin, 4 March 2010
Speech by Martin Dahinden to a workshop jointly organised by the German Institute for International and Security Affairs [Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik, SWP] and the Swiss Embassy in Berlin
Armed conflicts, fragile states: Complex global challenges demand coordinated responses. The director of the SDC, Martin Dahinden, reflects on the opportunities and risks of combining political solutions, military pressure, humanitarian aid and development cooperation in such contexts. Integrated approaches make sense in Dahinden’s view. His opinion is not however an invitation to mix roles and try out anything: “I am decidedly of the opinion that the different actors concerned have, and must have, specific roles to play in finding solutions.”
