Financial crisis and banking for the poor
Indian and Swiss perspectives

SDC platform for controversial debate on themes related to international cooperation
Financial markets and banks play critically important roles in developing and developed economies. The poor and excluded need financial services (savings, insurance, credit, money transfers etc.) as much as the better off and the rich.
Financial systems integrating poor households, farmers and small enterprises have been an objective for the SDC for more than 30 years. Indian institutions and personalities have been amongst the most important partners, financially and intellectually, in this endeavour.
The current financial and economic crisis raises fundamental questions for developed and developing economies. This is why TRAVERSE invites Vijay Mahajan, a long-time partner of SDC from Basix India, and Dr. Arthur Vayloyan, Head of Investment Services and Products of Credit Suisse for a discussion moderated by Roger de Weck, author of the recently published book "Nach der Krise – Gibt es einen anderen Kapitalismus?" (After the Crisis – Is there Another Capitalism?)
The presentation and discussion are held in english. We look forward to seeing you among the limited number of participants! The event is free of charge. Please register before 19 January 2010 at traverse@deza.admin.ch
