Learning and Networking – Catalyst for Development

Lernen undVernetzen

The countries of the South and East are in need of people and organisations that can take their development in hand in an independent and skilful manner. Developing the necessary abilities requires an exchange of knowledge and experiences as well as critical thinking about rules and behaviour.

The SDC promotes a culture of individual and organisational learning through partnerships in the countries of the South and East, as well as the networking of its own staff and of partner organisations and provides support for improvements in partners’ framework conditions. Learning, networking and capacity building are all instruments for improving the quality and effectiveness of international cooperation.

Dare to share

Institutional learning
The promotion of learning to improve development produces benefits from the knowledge and experiences of others, adapting and applying these to one’s own circumstances, questioning one’s own rules, procedures and structures, continuing to develop while ensuring that others too benefit from what has been learned. The SDC advises and supports its partners in the design of complex learning processes. To strengthen this dedicated learning culture the SDC’s expertise is managed and continuously developed in networks linking staff in the Head Office, Cooperation Offices, partner organisations and in the field of research.

Schmetterling

Capacity development
One of the principal objectives of the SDC is to strengthen the ability of people and organisations in the South and East so that they can themselves come to terms with the development challenges in their country. The Agency supports partner organisations in developing their capacities, working with them on the basis of agreed objectives and values, with trust, transparency and open dealings with the powers that be.

ICT4D

Information and Communication Technologies for Development
Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have considerably transformed the way we learn and work. ICTs skilfully embedded in development programmes to promote access to knowledge and its exchange, and participation of the poorest and most marginalised population groups, can make a valuable contribution to achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
