Culture plays a key role in development cooperation. This is why the SDC supports selected cultural projects in Switzerland and its partner countries.

Culture strategy 2010-2015
Principles of SDC Cultural Policy

Cultural projects in the South and East
The SDC supports selected cultural projects in all the different fields in its partner countries and priority regions. The guiding principle applied here is that at least one percent of the total budget is allocated to the promotion of local culture.

Examples of major regional cultural programmes:
Central Asia
Western Balkans
South Africa

Focus on film and music in Switzerland
In Switzerland, the SDC facilitates the access of artists from the countries of the South and East to the Swiss public, the international cultural market and to professional networks. It does this in cooperation with professional partner organisations. The two priority areas are film and music – given their market relevance and dissemination potential.

Events and projects in Switzerland supported by the SDC
The SDC supports the following Swiss organisations and projects in the implementation of its cultural strategy through a federal contribution or mandate.

Film festivals of national/regional importance
The SDC maintains partnerships with five Swiss film festivals of national/regional importance. These festivals are committed to supporting “world cinema” and give film-makers from the South and East and their works easier access to Swiss audiences, the international market and professional networks.

Local festivals and events
Trigon-film has received a mandate by the SDC to support local film festivals and events in Switzerland which are committed to bringing films from the South and East to their regions. For information please contact Trigon-film directly.
