Support to UN-Water in the drive to 2015

Support to UN-Water core budget is strategic to ensure economic, effective and efficient operations of UN-Water, strengthen its role in the global water governance, reinforce its position as a major actor with high level outreach capacity in implementing the agenda defined by the 2000 Millennium Declaration and the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development and in shaping up of the post-Millennium Development Goals’ water related discourse.
Context
UN-Water is a major pillar of the global water architecture.
Goal
Strengthen the positioning of UN-Water in the global water architecture in the drive to 2015 and in the discourse on post-2015.
Outcomes
  • Increase the coherence and coordination of the UN system initiatives in the water sector and ensure economic, effective and efficient operations of UN-Water
  • Strengthen UN-Water role in the global water governance.
  • Influence significantly the development of the water sector at global level as UN-Water is the designated actor to implement the Water component in the agenda defined by the 2000 Millennium Declaration and the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development
Implementing partner
UNOPS as the administrator of the UN-Water Inter-Agency Trust Fund.

30 UN Members, 26 global Partners (Aquafed, IUCN, GWP, WWF, WWC, IWMI, etc...).
