Karama! The Arab Uprising and its Consequences
Exhibition and accompanying Events
It began in December 2010 in Tunisia, and was soon to spread like wildfire across many
countries of North Africa and the Near and Middle East. Protests, uprisings and rebellions caused the existing political structures to tremble and even collapse. The respect for human dignity
(Karama) was one of the demands of many individuals who were protesting against the lack of hope for the future.
What happened 2 years ago, the role played by the new media, the current situation in the countries concerned, and the consequences for Switzerland and its international cooperation are all themes of
the SDC-supported exhibition and the numerous accompanying events. Staff of the SDC, the Directorate of Political Affairs and the Directorate of International Law of the FDFAand other federal
agencies will report on their practical experiences, while the exhibition presents the concrete work accomplished in the countries affected.
