Socially and ecologically acceptable industrialization
On-going industrialization and an intensification of agriculture marks development in Southeast Asia. But while supporting this development, the SDC also wants to ensure that it is socially and ecological acceptable. The focus of development cooperation is on the promotion of the sustainable use of resources, location assessment and long-term infrastructure planning in the prevention of erosion, sinking groundwater levels, water and air pollution and urban planning. Some countries of Southeast Asia are constantly in the grips of political crises and unrest. Here, the SDC works to promote democratic structures and stable political conditions.
Vietnam is a priority country for Swiss development cooperation.
The SDC supports humanitarian aid programmes in this region, which provide school facilities, drinking water and medical care for the victims of political conflicts and displaced people.
