Chernobyl: lest we forget

The SDC has effected since 2000 several humanitarian projects in those communities in Belarus, Ukraine, and Russia that were stricken by the disaster. In Belarus, more than anywhere else, the long-term effects of the disaster are still being acutely felt.

Projects

The SDC has assisted inefforts to alleviate the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster through several different programmes.

In the summer of 2002, SDC launched the international information platform www.chernobyl.info in cooperation with government organizations, the UN agencies UNOCHA and UNDP, as well as with SDC cooperation offices in Minsk, Kiev and Moscow. Visitors to this site can find general information about the disaster and learn about the consequences and impact on humans, animal life and the environment.
