Work-life-balance

As a modern employer, the SDC tries to create working conditions that make it easier for mothers and fathers to reconcile work with family obligations. We support and encourage flexible working and work-time models and have our own childcare facilities.

The strategic objectives of SDC policy on advancing equal opportunity include working conditions that help to achieve broad-based work-life balance and promote a corporate culture where gender equality is practised.

Both factors are closely linked to the issues involved in squaring family and career (or work and other areas of private life), where flexible working and work-time models, together with childcare structures that complement the family, are of crucial importance.

Flexible working and work-time models at the SDC
The SDC encourages flexible work-time models and alternative working arrangements. Staff can choose from a wide range of different options. In principle, flexible working band widths, annual working time, sabbaticals, part-time work or alternating telecommuting mean that working hours can be tailored to individual needs, provided these do not clash with organizational requirements.

The payoffs expected for the SDC? Fewer absences, greater motivation and commitment, less frequent employee turnover and – last but not least – enhanced attractiveness as an employer.

The SDC supports models like job sharing or co-management with the aim of securing a wide spectrum of skills and obtaining a high degree of flexibility.

In future, more job-sharing opportunities and part-time jobs are to be created for managers and executives to ensure work-life balance is achievable, even in highly qualified positions.

The SDC's family-complementing childcare
As part of its policy on advancing equal opportunity, the SDC set itself the objective of providing childcare facilities for its staff, primarily to create a framework for easier reconciliation of the demands of career and family and in response to a growing need.

The SDC has reserved childcare places at the two following facilities:
DEZALINA
KROKOFANT

Both facilities are bilingual (German and French).
