Environmental engineers or chemists for the following areas of responsibility: analysis of solid and liquid waste that poses a threat to public
health, impedes reconstruction anddamages the environment after natural or an environmental disasters; working out of waste clearance plans including safe handling, disposal of and possible re-use of
building materials; elaboration of emergency plans for waste management in the event of disasters.
Experts for vegetation fires
Firefighters, environmental scientists, environmental engineers, forestry engineers, biologists and agronomists for the following tasks:
producing scenarios forfirefighting and combating of fire spread; technical advice on the best use of the available equipment; elaboration of fire management plans including reafforestation programs;
risk andthreat analyses(emergency plans).
Programme Officer Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)
Education in environmental sciences (natural resources management, geography, geology, agronomy, forestry, civil engineering) or related
fields with experience in disaster management/prevention and knowledge of key concepts in DRR and climate change adaptation (CCA). Tasks: management of DRR projects or programs aiming at an improved
disaster management system through conception of structural and non-structural measures such as risk assessment, development of preparedness plans/strategies, rescue trainings, community-based DRR,
land-use / watershed management, early warning systems, awareness building etc. and introduction of DRR/CCA concepts into development projects as cross-cutting themes; further tasks include policy
dialogue, capacity building and networking in the field of DRR with governmental institutions and project partners.
Renewable energy expert
Environmental scientist, Environmental engineer, Forest engineer, Biologist, Agronomist. Tasks: Assessment of alternative domestic energy sources for
refugees/internally displaced people and local communities; promotion of energy-saving technologies and practices including appropriate cooking devices; assessment of the impact of extensive firewood
use on the local ecosystems; survey of firewood consumption; elaboration of environmental action plans; rehabilitation of degraded ecosystems; on site Environmental Coordinator (UNHCR).
