Contributions for Swiss non-governmental organizations
The SDC works in particular with organizations which, by virtue of their experience and their range of activities, play a leading role in development cooperation. This occurs mainly in the following forms:
- Programme contributions/ focus contributions
Programme/focus contributions are financial contributions by the SDC to longstanding development programmes implemented by Swiss non-governmental organisations (NGOs). The maximum contribution is 50% of programme costs. The NGOs are responsible for the programme.

Lignes directrices concernant les contributions de la DDC à des projets individuels menés par des ONG suisses - Mandates
The term mandate refers to the awarding of contracts to private organizations to carry out a project or program. In this case the over-all project costs and responsibility are assumed by and remain with the Confederation, while the state makes use of the capacities and expertise available to the NGOs . As a rule, such contracts are submitted to public tender.

Some NGOs work with the Confederation in both program contributions and mandates, while others concentrate on one or the other depending on their own profile.
