Swiss development cooperation in the agricultural sector is having effects
The nearly CHF 1.2 billion deployed between 2003 and 2008 have helped to increase the production and the productivity of family-run agricultural enterprises, improve framework conditions for trade, and optimise the value chain between producers and consumers.
Increase in Official Development Assistance
In response to a mandate from Parliament, on 17 September 2010 the Federal Council published a message announcing its intention to increase the Confederation’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) budget. On 28.02.11, Parliament approved an increase in development assistance of 640 million francs for 2011 and 2012. This means that Swiss development assistance should rise to 0.5 percent of gross national income within 5 years. Funding for the years 2013-2015 will be dealt with as part of the debate about the message 2013-2016 in Parliament. With a contribution of 0.41 % of its gross national income (GNI), in 2010 was slightly below the average for the OECD countries (0.49 %).
Figures aside, the proposal has had a real impact on the projects being conducted by the SDC and the SECO as part of their mission to alleviate poverty. As well as enabling to fulfil its multilateral obligations, these additional resources will give impetus to two types of project in which our country has a reputation for excellence: water resources and climate.
Water-related projects (bilateral cooperation)
Climate-related projects (bilateral cooperation)
Strengthening of multilateral activities
